Forward in Faith Construction Report
March 2010
Work finally began on January 4, 2010 on the plans to
renovate and expand Summit Presbyterian Church. The Contracting firm of G.L.M.G., based in Fredericksburg, has
been contracted to do the work. The work includes the replacement of all the siding, windows, several doors, and an expansion of the Narthex. In addition, the Summit sign on Shelton Shop Road has been overhauled and will soon be trimmed in stone to match the new look of the church.
The four foot expansion of the Narthex can already be seen from the outside of the building. We can expect to see new siding starting to go up on the building sometime in late March. The new windows will arrive in April and the scheduled completion for the project is the middle to late May.
Please feel free to contact the Construction Elder, Roy
Geberth, or any other members of the Construction
Committee; John Snyder, Susan Kapes, Jeff Garrett, or Bob Harvey if you have any questions.

Forward in Faith Financial Report
December 2008
In March of 2008, Summit kicked off a three year campaign of spiritual renewal and capital fund raising with the theme of “Forward in Faith – Bridging Generations." Inspired by Psalm 22: 30, “Future Generations will worship and learn about You, our Lord," we celebrated our 25th anniversary as a church and dedicated ourselves to searching our hearts through prayer and sacrificial giving to make sure that Summit continues to minister to our community as well as our own future generations.
Our physical goal is to add space for classrooms, expand our fellowship area, add a much needed elevator for handicapped access (as well as improved cargo movement from basement to sanctuary level), refurbish bathrooms, and replace outdoor siding. Our spiritual goals are as varied as each of us is as an individual, but include the common goal of coming together as the Lord’s family so that we might give back a portion of all that He has provided for us.
Our initial monetary goal is to raise $1,500,000 over the course of the next three years. Initial pledges from sixty eight families and individual members have totaled approximately $487,000. As of November, 2008, we have received approximately $95,887. Some families and individuals have also pledged items such as a pristine antique truck to be sold for the benefit of the church, while others have chosen to make weekly or monthly donations. Still others have committed their time and talents to tile, paint, remodel bathrooms, do electrical or carpentry work, or install drywall. Whatever the Lord is leading you to contribute, in any amount or form, will be greatly appreciated!
Our ability to move forward with our proposed construction is contingent upon our pledges and receipts which is affected by the overall economic downturn that we are currently experiencing. Many of us have had to re-examine our priorities, not only of a financial nature, but also in our ways of living our lives on a daily basis. What better priority than to take care of the Lord’s house and worship him through prayer, study and fellowship? I know that he has always blessed our family and continues to do so, just as he will continue to bless our church family at Summit.

Forward in Faith Construction Project Report
Members and Friends of Summit are excited about the future plans for our church. Our Forward in Faith – Bridging Generations campaign, which kicked off in 2008, is the theme by which our church is moving forward to reach its goal of the renovation and expansion of our current building. The following background information gives a short history leading up to the present day and what we hope to accomplish in the future:
| |
• In the spring of 2003, Session began to explore the needs and possibilities for expanding the church.
• The Construction Committee was formed and a multi-phase construction plan was conceived.
• During the summer of 2003, the Construction Committee contracted with Glave & Holmes Architectural firm in Richmond to develop a multi-phase plan for expansion of the existing church site.
• Fund raising began in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Summit and the Designated Construction fund began to grow.
• During 2004-2005, the focus of the construction shifted to renovation and modest expansion.
• In 2006, the Construction Committee reviewed design proposals and gathered estimates for:
· Renovations to the existing building to include residing the entire
building, replacing the windows, and expanding the narthex
· An expansion to include additional classrooms
· A conference room on the east end of the building
· An expansion of the narthex
• In 2007-2008, the Construction Committee, based on feedback from the Congregation and Session, contracted with Glave and Holmes to develop the blueprints that captured the details of the renovation and expansion.
• In 2008, The Forward in Faith campaign commenced with the goal of raising funds for important programs in the church including the construction project.
• In 2009, the blueprints will be completed, bids will be accepted, and contracts will be awarded for the entire construction project.

All of these important steps have been required to reach our final goal, but the entire project will take additional time, money and coordination. We will continue to make careful, well-informed decisions as this project continues. Please feel free to contact your Construction Elder Roy Geberth or another member of our Construction Committeee - Bob Harvey, John Snyder, Jeff Garrett, or Susan Kapes.
Members and Friends of Summit, as they continue to go 'Forward in Faith,' look toward our future generations as the recipients of our present day commitment and hard work, and feel confident that Summit will provide a place where these future generations can continue to "worship and learn about You, our Lord."
